The University of Kent is delighted to offer EPSRC Studentships to exceptional international students undertaking a full-time Computer Science – PhD study or to home students on a part-time basis. The funding opportunity starting in September 2023 is open to talented home and international students for the 2023-24 academic year in the UK. Successful applicants will receive scholarships, including a doctoral stipend for 3.5 years, tuition fees at the home rate, and access to further research support funding. EPSRC – School of Computing at the University of Kent provides a real-world experience. Students can enhance their studies and put their skills into practice with an industrial placement. Eligibility
- Eligible Countries: All nationalities, including home/UK and EU countries.
- Acceptable Course or Subjects: The scholarship will be awarded for Computer Science – PhD – full-time at Canterbury.
- Admissible Criteria: To be eligible, the applicants must meet all the given criteria:
- Applicants should have a first or upper-second-class honours degree in a relevant subject and, ideally, a Master’s degree or equivalent.
- A first or 2.1 degree or advanced/specialist taught MSc in computer science or a related discipline (such as mathematics, business studies, or electronics, as long as the degree has a strong computing component).
- Applicants should expect to obtain a Master’s degree or equivalent
- Successful candidates will demonstrate academic excellence and outstanding research potential.
- The studentships are open to Home and Overseas (including EU) students.
- To be classed as a Home student, candidates must meet the RCUK residency criteria.
UK residential conditions:
- Be a UK National (meeting UKRI residency requirements), or
- Have settled status, or
- Have pre-settled status (meeting residency requirement) or
- Have indefinite leave to remain or enter.
How to Apply
- How to Apply: To be considered for the scholarship program, all applicants must apply for a Computer Science PhD.
- Supporting Documents: To support the application, applicants must submit the following:
- Explain reasons for study/outline research proposal
- Provide details/evidence of qualifications
- Provide two academic references
- Provide other personal information and supporting documentation.
- Admission Requirements: Applicants should have, or expect to obtain, a first or upper-second-class honours degree in a relevant subject and, ideally, a Master’s degree or equivalent. Applicants must meet the full criteria of entry requirements.
- Language Requirement: The University of Kent requires all non-native speakers of English to meet the minimum standard of proficiency in written and spoken English before beginning a postgraduate degree. Check here for English language requirements.

The University of Kent will provide all the following:
- These scholarships include a doctoral stipend (equivalent to the Research Councils UK National Minimum Doctoral Stipend, £17,668 2022/23 rate, 2023/24 to be announced) for 3.5 years, tuition fees at the home rate and access to further research support funding.
- If you apply as an international candidate, Kent will waive the difference between Home and International fees.
- UKRI caps the number of international studentships awarded per cohort at 30%.
