University of Oxford tops ‘THE’ world rankings for 8 years

For eight consecutive years, the University of Oxford has consistently held the top position in ‘THE’ world rankings.

Time and time again, the University of Oxford has proven itself to be one of the best universities in the world. Founded in the year 1096, the University of Oxford is regarded as the oldest university in all the English-speaking nations. Excellent education, top-notch facilities, diverse student body, and great job opportunities after graduation have what made the University top the Times Higher Education ranking for the 8th consecutive year.

The University of Oxford was followed by Stanford University and Massachusetts Institute of Technology, which were placed 2nd and 3rd on the list. On the other hand, Cambridge University, which is seen as the competitor of Oxford in the UK, ranked 5th, a demotion of 2 potions from the previous year.

Oxford’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Irene Tracey, expressed her delight at the university’s top global ranking for the eighth consecutive year. She emphasized the institution’s impactful research, outstanding teaching, and its enduring legacy of inspiration, attributing its success to the dedicated efforts of her colleagues.

Phil Baty, Chief Global Affairs Officer at THE, noted that the University of Oxford’s eighth consecutive top position in the World University Rankings is an unprecedented achievement over the 20-year history of the rankings. Oxford’s success is underpinned by its remarkable performance across all 18 indicators, encompassing teaching quality, global perspective, and industry partnerships. Particularly, Oxford stands out for its exceptional and globally influential research.

The University of Oxford first achieved the top spot in the 2017 THE rankings, and since then, it has not looked back for once.

As a reader, you can get the Idea of how great this accomplishment is, as when the university topped the ranking for the first time in 2016, there were fewer than 1000 Universities. But in today’s date, when there are more than 2000 universities that get evaluated, Oxford holding the top position speaks volumes of the university’s calibre.

The rankings for this year consider how well universities perform in different aspects, such as teaching quality, research, international collaboration, and industry involvement. Oxford University received high marks in all these areas, especially for its research and teaching quality, as well as its impact on industries through the use of its research in patents.

Here are the top 10 Universities according to Times Higher Education 2024-
